Parents and Kids Daily Devotional "Look at "UsSample
No parent is perfect. No child is perfect. No one is perfect.
Today, we will learn about a woman, a mother actually, who did something bad and her action had a long-lasting consequence for her sons. Her name was Rebecca, the wife of Isaac.
Isaac and Rebecca were blessed with twin boys. Even though they were twins, they were nothing alike. Unfortunately, their parents treated them differently because of their opposite characteristics. The Bible writes that Isaac preferred his eldest son, Esau, while Rebecca loved Jacob more.
Something terrible happened when Rebecca devised a scheme against her husband Isaac so that Jacob would receive the blessing intended for Esau, the eldest son. Jacob agreed to do what his mother asked him to do and later on ran away from the family. Esau was very upset and hated Jacob so much.
Later on, Esau and Jacob reconciled and lived as brothers who loved one another. But it did not happen in a short period of time. Many years were spent hating each other. And Rebecca played a big role in this family feud.
We are imperfect people. No parent, nor child, is perfect. We have weaknesses that one day may cause hurt or pain to the family. For that, we need the Holy Spirit to guide us to do the right thing so that our family does not have to live with the consequences of our bad choices or actions.
Devotion for Parents
How many bad choices or actions have you made that have caused pain in your family? Today is the right time to come to God, acknowledge your weaknesses, and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you and hold your hand every day. You need the Holy Spirit in order to become a better parent for your children.
Devotion for Kids
Just like our imperfect parents, we aren’t perfect. As children, we also need the Holy Spirit to help us do the right thing. We will learn more about this next week, but today, let us pray that the Holy Spirit may dwell in our hearts.
Family Devotion Time
One of the best ways to avoid (future) problems is by acknowledging our weaknesses and asking our family to support and strengthen us so that we do not fall.
Tonight, pray for one another. Admit your shortcomings and ask the Holy Spirit to turn your weaknesses into strengths so that you may glorify His name.
