Parents and Kids Daily Devotional "Look at "UsSample
My father’s birthday was coming up in a couple of days, so I informed both my children about it and they were excited! They asked me what their grandparent would like. Before I had a chance to answer, they ran off to their room.
Not long after that, I heard my eldest, who was 9 at the time, asking his little brother for help. Apparently, he was trying to put a ribbon on a gift for his grandpa. I glanced at the gift and was surprised to learn what it was. It was a chess board and used playing cards. I started to negotiate with him about giving a different gift, a cake perhaps, because I didn’t feel comfortable giving something used. My son was unmoved. He insisted that he wanted to give that present because he knew that grandpa loved to play chess.
While I was still thinking about that “ugly” gift, God reminded me that that was all my son had. I was taken aback and started to view the whole situation from a different point of view. I saw sincerity in my son. He gave from what he had.
This story reminds me of a boy who gave away his lunch consisting of 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish to Jesus. The disciples told him that it wouldn’t be enough to feed 5,000 people, but the little boy insisted. We all know how it turned out. A simple gift brought forth a miracle. 5,000 people ate to their heart’s content with 12 baskets of leftovers.
As the anointed generation, God is asking us right now, “What do you have?” He didn’t ask “How much” or “How great” you are. He asks for a sincere heart to give what we have to God and let God work and multiply for the glory of His name. What can you give to God today?
Devotion for Parents
How often do you feel like you don’t have anything worthy to give to God? Truly, nothing is too small or useless for God to use and multiply. Give all you have to God and let Him anoint and work through it.
Devotion for Kids
What is the best gift you’ve ever given to someone else? Why do you think it was the best gift? What can you give to God right now?
Family Devotion Time
Share about the most impressive gift you have ever received. Why was it unforgettable or did it leave such a big impression on you? Then, discuss with your family about what you can give to God to glorify His name. Close in prayer.
