The place of the Bible in education is a political hot potato in many countries. And yet, behind so many of the education systems of Western nations is the biblical tenet that everyone should be brought up in the knowledge and love of God. In Australia, the Bible Society committee commended the founding of schools so that all children could be “welcomed to the festival of information” that the Bible would give them! This beautiful goal must be handled respectfully in pluralistic societies, but to ignore it would be a travesty and a betrayal of the next generation.
