Amen (KJV)
FINISH WITH AMEN
Amen means “so be it” or “may it be so” or “truly.” This is the attitude we need to leave our prayer time with. Let it be it is an affirmation of truth, a statement of praise and a declaration of submission all rolled into one word.
Amen is a powerful ending to our prayer time. Paul finishes his letters with the word amen (Romans 16:27, Galatians 6:18, Philippians 4:20, 1 Timothy 6:16, 2 Timothy 4:18), and so did the author of Hebrews, Peter and Jude. Actually, the whole Bible finishes with the word amen!
Revelation 22:21
The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.
In Deuteronomy, the term amen is used to agree to the commands of God (Deuteronomy 27:15-26). This was a sense of agreeing with what they heard as true, just and certain. Amen in the Old Testament is linked also with praise.
1 Chronicles 16:36
Then all the people said ‘Amen’ and ‘Praise the Lord.’
Amen is an expression of praise and obedience to God.
It is the power of agreement that what we have said will be done and the power of submission that what we have prayed is submitted to God, and he will answer it in his way. As we submit our prayers to God in this one statement, amen, we will see God bring incredible answers to our prayers! But it is also the sense of submission that allows us to trust in God when the answer is no, or not yet. Amen means to acknowledge God’s absolute authority over everything you have just prayed.
So, when you say amen at the end of your prayer time, remember this powerful moment of agreeing with God that you are praising him for the one who answers prayer, confirming with him that your prayers will be answered, and submitting that answer to his will and his timing.
Psalm 106:48
Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel,
from everlasting to everlasting.
Let all the people say, “Amen!”
Praise the Lord.
