The Spirit of Prayer

DAY 6 OF 12

Give us today our daily bread.

PERSONAL

Now is the time that we seek God for our daily bread, our needs.

Philippians 4:6

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Rather than bringing your list of needs to God in desperation and anxiety, let’s begin with thanking him for all he has done in our lives, as you do you'll find that faith rises in you for answered prayer. Know that he is God, he made us, and enter his gates with thanksgiving and praise. Know that he is good and his love endures forever (Psalm 136).

A great model is to begin your requests with thanking him for what he has already given you. Thank him for your family, for your job, for your house, for his love, salvation, protection, and provision. Then spend time talking to him honestly and genuinely about the things that are troubling you. Cast your cares upon him for your children, your finances, your business. Let him know what you need, he will walk you through the valley (Psalm 23:4), ask for wisdom, and he will supply it (James 1:5). Share your heart with him, for he cares for you. There is no trouble or distress that you could ever find yourself in that is too far away for God to hear you. When Jonah was in the belly of the fish, he cried out to God and God heard him! (Jonah 2).

1 Peter 5:7

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

1 John 5:14

This is the confidence we have in approaching God; that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

Know that as you present your requests to God, he hears you and will provide an answer. God is with you in all things, and he will work for your good (Romans 8:28).

Prayer: Father, like Jonah I cry out to you in my time of need. I thank you Lord that as I cast my cares upon you that you care for me and will provide answers and wisdom in all that I am facing. I pray that you would turn all things around for good and give me the strength to walk through the valley knowing that you are with me. I thank you that you are able to provide for me all that I need.

KEY PRAYER POINT: PRAY FOR THE SINGLE PEOPLE IN YOUR CHURCH THAT GOD WOULD GIVE THEM WISDOM, PROVISION, AND ENCOURAGE THEM IN COMMUNITY AND HELP THEM TO FLOURISH IN THE HOUSE OF GOD.
