Wait on the Lord
“Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart.” — Psalm 27:14 NKJV
Waiting is the best thing we can do when we feel weak. But many of us hear the word waiting and picture being still and passive — doing nothing while life passes us by. The Bible’s way of waiting is different. When the Word of God says, “Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart,” it’s not calling for passive resignation. It’s calling for active, hope-filled waiting.
Think of the waiter at a restaurant. He’s not idle. He’s attentive—taking your order, watching for the oven timer, making sure your table is cared for. That kind of waiting is engaged and expectant. When we wait on the Lord like that, we are alert to His movements, listening for His voice, serving where we can, and staying linked to Him in prayer and Scripture. Waiting becomes a posture of trust rather than a state of frustration.
It’s easy to confuse busy activity with faithful action. The distinction is this: frantic activity is often driven by anxiety; faithful waiting is driven by confidence in God’s timing and character. When you wait on the Lord, you’re saying, “I believe God is working, even when I don’t see the whole picture.” That belief changes how you move through your day. Instead of pushing ahead out of panic, you choose small, faithful rhythms—read a verse before your email, offer a quick breath-prayer between tasks, call a friend and ask them to pray with you. These are not passive; they are the practical marks of expectant waiting.
Serving while you wait matters too. Waiting isn’t an excuse to withdraw—it’s an excuse to love and serve in ways that reflect God’s presence. Your service becomes a kind of waiting: active, watchful, and rooted in hope.
So if you feel weak today, don’t be embarrassed by the pause. Let it become a place of communion. Wait with courage. Open Scripture. Pray simply. Do the next faithful thing. God will meet the posture of your heart with strength for the journey.
Reflection Question:
What one small, active step (a verse to read, a short prayer to pray, a person to call) can you take today that will help you wait on the Lord with courage and receive His strengthening?
