Praise In the Midst of Weakness
What is your go-to song of praise for the weak days? In those times when it seems that you can’t get anything right or nothing is going your way, and you’re ready to throw in the towel, do you have a hymn, a worship song, or a Gospel tune that helps you? There is just something about praising God even when you are not feeling your best. There is something beautiful that happens when you lift up your hands in spite of your circumstance. It’s not about being in denial that you are facing tough times and feeling inadequate. This is about declaring that we serve a great big God, Who is strong and mighty.
Habakkuk puts it this way:
Yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will exult in the [victorious] God of my salvation! The Lord God is my Strength, my personal bravery, and my invincible army; He makes my feet like hinds' feet and will make me to walk [not to stand still in terror, but to walk] and make [spiritual] progress upon my high places [of trouble, suffering, or responsibility]! Habakkuk 3:18-19 AMPC
Even in weakness, you can rejoice. Even when life hurts, you can praise. That’s how you tap into the strength that doesn’t run dry. Remind yourself that God is your Strength. Recall all of His amazing attributes that never ever change. Exalting our Savior God will encourage and strengthen your spirit.
On the days that feel heavy, let praise become your pattern. Start small: whisper a line of a favorite song while you make breakfast, hum a chorus on your commute, or step outside and lift your hands for a quiet moment of adoration. Praise doesn’t pretend the pain isn’t real; it puts the pain in its proper place—beneath the greatness of God. As you exalt Him, your footing steadies. Like hinds’ feet on high places, He makes you sure-footed on steep, complicated ground.
You may not feel like singing at first. That’s okay. Begin anyway. Gratitude often awakens joy. Name three ways God has been faithful in the past. Remember when He carried you, provided for you, or gave you peace in a storm. Let those memories tune your heart. Rehearsing His goodness reorients your perspective and renews your courage.
Today, choose praise as your protest against despair and as your declaration of trust. Your circumstances may not shift immediately, but you will—stronger inside, lighter in spirit, steadier in hope.
Reflection Question:
What song of praise will you carry into this week, and when will you intentionally sing it to shift your focus from the weight to the God who is your Strength?
