God loves us

“So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us.” (1 John 4:16 ESV)

God's love is often mentioned in the Bible. This love is the driving force behind God's intervention in history and in the lives of individuals.

John had seen the transforming power of God's love with his own eyes. He had witnessed how Jesus Christ, the Son of God, went around doing good, healing people of diseases, and freeing them from demonic bondage. For three years, John followed Jesus closely. He saw how He loved His people who were in the world, and how He loved them to the end. Jesus was ready to be nailed to a cross and sacrifice His life to save sinful people from death. Three days after His crucifixion, Jesus rose from the grave, and finally He returned to heaven to continue His work from there.

When the Lord Jesus was no longer on earth, John had the opportunity to tell others about Him. Among other things, he wrote three letters to fellow believers. The main theme in those letters is the love of God. John had experienced this love himself, and he wanted others to share in it too.
