God wants to live in us

“God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.” (1 John 4:16 ESV)

God is great and powerful. He dwells “in the high and holy place.” But at the same time, He also dwells “with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit” (Isaiah 57:15 ESV).

When the Lord Jesus prayed to the Father at the end of His life on earth, He said: “I made known to them Your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which You have loved Me may be in them, and I in them.” (John 17:26 ESV) John also speaks of this special connection between God and man in his letter. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are one, and they want to dwell in people who confess the truth about Jesus and are filled with His love.

This truth cannot be fully understood or clearly expressed in words. “He abides in God, and God abides in him.” That sounds illogical and impossible. In fact, it is impossible, but not for God.

Jesus compares Himself to a vine and believers to the branches. They are closely connected. The branches depend on the vine for nourishment and vitality. The vine bears fruit through the branches. They are clearly different, yet united.

God wants to dwell in you—that is quite amazing! What does this thought evoke in you?
