THE POWER OF YOUR STORY
Have you ever had this experience? You’re staying overnight in a strange Airbnb. In the middle of the night, you wake up — it’s completely dark. You don’t know the room, so you feel along the wall, bump your knee against some piece of furniture, and search for the light switch. And then — click. You’ve found it. The light comes on. Suddenly you can see where you are. What just moments ago felt chaotic and confusing now makes sense again.
That’s how Paul describes what God has done in us: He spoke into our darkness — and made light shine. Jesus is that light. Wherever He comes in, darkness has to leave. He has illuminated our hearts — not because we sought Him, but because He found us.
My youth pastor used to say, “In a dark room, you don’t switch off the darkness — you switch on the light.” That stuck with me. Darkness doesn’t disappear because we fight it, but because light is stronger. That’s how Jesus works in us: He doesn’t drive out darkness by pressure, but by His presence.
Before Jesus came into our lives, many things were dark — even if we didn’t realize it at the time. We searched for security, but nothing lasted; we searched for meaning, but nothing satisfied; we searched for life, but remained empty.
Isaiah describes life without God as a search in the night — people groping for direction but unable to find their way. Only when Jesus speaks into that darkness does it become clear what life truly means. He has brightened our hearts — where there were feelings of abandonment, there’s now our home; where there was guilt, there’s now forgiveness; where there was hopelessness, there’s now joy.
And this light doesn’t stop with us. His light in us is not just for us. Your story with Jesus is precious. It’s living proof that God still saves, transforms, heals, and gives new life. And it’s not random — it’s your mission.
Maybe today God will show you someone who needs exactly what you’ve experienced. Be bold and share your story — simply and without pressure. Tell what Jesus has done in your life. Because every time you pass on your light, it shines in another heart.
