What Does It Mean to Be Human?

DAY 6 OF 21

Your significance remains after failure

Failure can feel like it erases our significance. Peter knew this pain deeply. He had walked with Jesus for three years, boldly declared his loyalty, and then denied Him three times in His darkest hour. Surely, failure had disqualified him.

But in John 21, the risen Jesus seeks Peter out. Around a charcoal fire – echoing the place of Peter’s denial – Jesus asks three questions of love. For every denial, there is an opportunity to affirm love. For every failure, there is grace. Jesus doesn’t discard Peter; He restores him.

This is the gospel: failure does not define you. Your mistakes, sins, or regrets may feel final, but Jesus’ grace speaks louder. He comes not to condemn but to restore. And He doesn’t just forgive – He recommissions. “Feed my sheep,” He says. Grace restores us not only to fellowship but also to purpose.

Your significance remains secure because it never depended on flawless performance. It is anchored in God’s love. Even in your brokenness, God’s grace is at work, weaving restoration and calling.

Reflection:
Where do I feel defined by failure? How does Jesus’ grace invite me to see myself differently?

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank you that failure is never final with you. Restore me where I’ve fallen short and help me live out of your grace rather than my guilt. Amen.
