Prayer for Help

DAY 2 OF 5

People Like Jonathan that Sacrifices

The lowest standard of love is to love others as oneself. But there are people who love beyond that. They are willing to sacrifice personal comfort, position and rights for others. They put their lives on the line for others. The Bible presents Jonathan as such a person to David.

Today's verse captures the heart of Jonathan's commitment to David. He asked what he could do to protect David from Saul, his father. He was not thinking about what it might cost him. He was not thinking about his position as a prince, his future, his relationship with his father or his father's motives. He was only thinking about David and what would help and secure his destiny. Jonathan ignored his royal position to ensure that David got his.

Although self-centredness and pride have become virtues today, everyone still desires people who would sacrifice for them. God graciously positions Jonathans around His people. David's story would not have been what it was without Jonathan. Jesus is our ultimate Jonathan. Like Jonathan, He faced the wrath of His Father to help us. He sacrificed His throne and life for ours. But even He needed a Jonathan. God gave him Joseph, who put his name and honour on the line for Jesus' glorious destiny.

You need a Jonathan. These are people who take it upon themselves to sacrifice until you sit on your throne. These are not the kinds that want to be worshipped because they helped you. They just want to do whatever they can to get you into your destiny. Pray to experience their ministry. God still raises such people for His people. Rise and Pray.

Pray:

  • Father, raise people like Jonathan for me in Jesus' name.
  • Father, help me not to discard relationships You ordained in Jesus' name.
  • Father, make me a Jonathan for others in Jesus' name.

About this Plan

Prayer for Help

David was a man mightily helped. At every junction in his life, he enjoyed God's help. But these help came from people God raised in his life. As we embark on this journey to pray, we will contemplate Some of these people and the help they released to David. From there, we will take issues for our prayer.
