Deep Wells & Empty Cups: A 5-Day Journey to Learning to Be Okay With Not Being Okay & Finding Your Way Back to the WellSample

Hey beautiful,I want you to know that it's okay not to be okay, and it’s even more okay to say it out loud. Rationalizing irrational thoughts is the opposite of having a free mind in Christ. There is truth in this statement from the Apostle Paul, “I wish above all else that you would be in good health and prosper. Even as your soul prospers.” (3 John 1:2).
I wonder if many of us have taken the time to determine what he meant by "soul prospering.” Does that mean he wishes, above all, that our hearts are okay? I’d venture to say yes. The primary thing is spiritual and emotional health. The primary goal is to ensure we are all right. Not perfect, but doing well. And in times when things are not okay, we’re safe enough to sound the alarm and say out loud, “HEY! I am not okay.”
Can you tell me where your safe place is? The place you can go when the world feels heavy. When the news is loud, and the pressures in your mind are even louder? Where can you go when things are too much and the way out through unholy means seems like the only option on the table? The answer seems simple, but it's the hardest and longest journey many of us will have to take on the road to being refilled.
Beautiful, we have to be okay with sounding the alarm. Opening our mouths and saying, “I am not okay.” Sounding the alarm is often where the journey begins. That’s where Holy Spirit can finally work. He can deliver! He is free to enter your story and set the proverbial captive free.
This is where the filling begins. At the entrance to the well. At the sounding of the alarm. At the crying out.
Let me ask you today: have you said it out loud?
Have you told the Lord, “I am not okay”?
Not just “help me,” but have you named the thing that you’ve been feeling?
Have you acknowledged that you’re no longer full? If not, let's take today to muster the courage to do just that.
{SAY THIS} I acknowledge that I may not be okay. My mind and my heart are in over their heads. I need your help, Jesus. I need you to get me out of the cycle of looking full of hope, joy, and peace, while inside I’m empty. Come in. You’re welcome today. I need you. Amen.
