Deep Wells & Empty Cups: A 5-Day Journey to Learning to Be Okay With Not Being Okay & Finding Your Way Back to the WellSample

I’ve learned over the years of trial, error, failure, natural success, and super high highs that, truly, the whole of life on earth can be summed up in this thought from Philippians: “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” (4:13)
The previous two verses in that chapter describe a man who has learned through the fires of life that sometimes things happen, and you’re in need, and sometimes things happen, and you're living from a place of plenty. Yet, in both, the true secret to life lies in finding peace, contentment, and joy through it all.
This secret pairs so nicely with what I’m calling the “well mentality.” It's the idea that once I understand that highs and lows are part of my human experience, I can dig a bit deeper and seek a mindset that helps keep me full, healthy, and satisfied until the day of Christ Jesus.
The well mentality says: I know my limitations and understand my humanity, so when I feel empty, I choose to return to the Well for a fresh drink. To be replenished so I can keep pressing toward the mark of the prize of the high calling. (Philippians 3:14)
I know my reward is not here. I know that my treasure is stored up for me in heaven, so I will embrace the ups and downs, the highs and lows, as a good and faithful servant. Relying on my Father in heaven to fill me up so I can overflow with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, meekness, and long suffering.
Today, let’s be encouraged that revelation comes through the hearing of the Word of God for our lives. Let God continue to work in you and through you. The best is yet to come. I believe that with my whole heart!
{SAY THIS}
I trust the will of the Father for my life, and I am settled in his portion for me. I release my thoughts, wants, and desires to Christ, and I embrace a philosophy that affirms God is sovereign and knows best. When I am tired, I will run, not walk, back to the well. When I am low, I will remember my portion. I will grab hold of the promises made to me in His Word, and I will run toward Him with all the strength I can muster. When I cannot, I will reach out to those who can help me, lift me, pray for me, and even carry me if they must. I embrace the well mentality: though I may feel empty and experience highs and lows, my cup will always be full when I ask and am willing to come to the Well.
