Wind & Fire - ReflectionsSample

Written by Javier De La Rosa - Discipleship Minister at City on a Hill Melbourne
“And when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not be anxious about how you should defend yourself or what you should say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you what you ought to say.” - Luke 12:11-12 (ESV)
One of the greatest barriers to witness is fear. Fear of saying the wrong thing, fear of not knowing enough, fear of being misunderstood or rejected. Jesus knows this weakness well, and He does not shame us for it. Instead, He promises help.
Paul tells us in Romans 8 that when we do not know how to pray, the Holy Spirit steps in. He intercedes for us, carrying our inarticulate longings before the Father. And in Luke 12, Jesus makes a similar promise for our witness: when we do not know what to say, the Spirit Himself will teach us.
Witness, then, is not built on eloquence or confidence, but on dependence. The same Spirit who helps us pray also empowers us to speak. He gives words, courage, clarity, and wisdom at the moment they are needed. We are not sent into the darkness of the world alone or unprepared. God goes with us, and speaks through us.
This does not remove the cost of witness, nor does it guarantee comfort. But it does free us from the burden of self-reliance. The message of life we carry is sustained by the presence and power of the Spirit. As we step forward in faith, trusting God with both our silence and our speech, He delights to make Jesus known through ordinary people.
The call to witness is not a call to mastery, but to trust. And where we feel weak, the Spirit is already at work.
Reflect:
Based on today’s reading:
How is the Holy Spirit inviting me to respond today, for God’s glory and the good of others?
Pray:
Holy Spirit, thank You for helping me in my weakness. Give me courage to speak of Jesus and trust You for the words I need. Teach me to rely on You as I live and speak for Your glory. Amen.

About this Plan

Wind & Fire is a devotional journey written by Javier de la Rosa to help you understand and pursue the spiritual gifts God gives his church. This series explores how the spiritual gifts are given for the mission of Jesus. You will study the gifts by looking at the church’s missional activities of love, presence, formation, freedom, witness and multiplication. Each devotion invites you to open the Scriptures, open your heart and ask the Holy Spirit for fresh power, fresh gifts and fresh wind and fire.
