Wind & Fire - ReflectionsSample

Written by Javier De La Rosa - Discipleship Minister at City on a Hill Melbourne
“I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” - John 17:20-21 (ESV)
In Jesus’ prayer recorded in the Gospel of John, we are given a rare and powerful glimpse into His heart for His people. On the night before His crucifixion, Jesus prays not only for His disciples, but for all who would one day believe, including us. His request is striking: that we would be one, united in the same love that exists between the Father and the Son.
This unity is not rooted in sameness of personality, preference, or opinion, but in a shared love for Jesus and a shared experience of His love for us. It is a unity created and sustained by the Holy Spirit. As believers live in this Spirit-formed unity, something remarkable happens, the world begins to see the truth of who Jesus is.
Our unity becomes a witness. When the church loves one another across differences, forgives generously, and serves humbly, it displays a reality the world cannot manufacture. This is not organisational success or human harmony; it is the supernatural work of God, revealing that Jesus truly has been sent by the Father.
To live this way requires dependence on the Spirit and a willingness to pursue love over self-interest. But as we do, God uses our shared life together to bear witness to His truth. United in Christ, the church becomes a living testimony to the love that saves.
Reflect:
Based on today’s reading:
How is the Holy Spirit inviting me to respond today, for God’s glory and the good of others?
Pray:
Lord Jesus, thank You for praying for us and for uniting us in Your love. By Your Spirit, help us to live in true unity, so that the world may see and believe the truth of who You are. Use our life together to bear faithful witness to Your grace. Amen.

About this Plan

Wind & Fire is a devotional journey written by Javier de la Rosa to help you understand and pursue the spiritual gifts God gives his church. This series explores how the spiritual gifts are given for the mission of Jesus. You will study the gifts by looking at the church’s missional activities of love, presence, formation, freedom, witness and multiplication. Each devotion invites you to open the Scriptures, open your heart and ask the Holy Spirit for fresh power, fresh gifts and fresh wind and fire.
