"One thing have I asked of the LORD, that will I seek after:
that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD
and to inquire in his temple." - Psalm 27:4 (ESV)

Psalm 27 captures a deep and holy longing. David’s greatest desire is not safety, success, or relief from trouble, but the presence of God. He longs to dwell in the Lord’s house, to gaze upon His beauty, and to inquire in His temple. For David, God’s presence was something to be sought, treasured, and pursued.

What David longed for, we now possess. Through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus, God’s presence is no longer confined to a building. Paul tells us something astonishing: our bodies are now the temple of the Holy Spirit. The presence of God dwells not behind a curtain, but within His people.

This means that access to God’s beauty and delight is not limited by location or circumstance. The Spirit brings God’s presence into our ordinary lives, our work, our relationships, our suffering, and our joy. We no longer go to the temple to meet God; we carry His presence with us wherever we go.

The invitation of Psalm 27 still stands, but it is now deeper and closer. By the Spirit, we are invited to delight in God, to listen for His voice, and to live each day aware that He is near. The beauty David longed to gaze upon is now revealed to us in Christ, and made real to us by the Spirit.

Lord, thank You that through Jesus, Your presence is not far from me, but lives within me. Help me to delight in You, to seek Your beauty, and to live each day aware of Your nearness. Teach me to listen, to worship, and to respond to Your Spirit at work in my life. Amen.
