Exodus: Chapter by Chapter

DAY 11 OF 14

Remembering God in the Valley

I’ve experienced moments when it was impossible to miss what God was doing, clear victories, answered prayers, and undeniable provision. But I’ve also walked through the valley. And the thing about the valley is that it obstructs your view. Walls surround you, there are shadows, and uncertainties. It becomes easy to forget who has been faithful before. When things don’t seem to be coming together, memory fades, and fear speaks louder. Yet, remembering what God has already done has the power to carry us through the seasons when clarity feels out of reach.

Israel learned this lesson the hard way.

Still, God responds with mercy. Moses intercedes for the people, and God shows patience and compassion once again. These chapters serve as a warning to us: when faith is tested, and answers feel delayed, our hearts can drift toward substitutes that feel immediate, familiar, or controllable. The valley tested their patience and confidence.

In the valley, remembering matters. Recalling God’s past faithfulness steadies our present trust. When we rehearse what God has done, it anchors us to who He still is, faithful, merciful, and near, even when the path forward isn’t clear.

Respond to God’s Word:

  • What substitutes might you turn to when trusting God feels difficult?
