Exodus: Chapter by ChapterSample

What Our Priorities Reveal
Many of us have been asked, “What’s most important in your life?” And most of our answers sound very similar: God first, then our spouse, then our family, and so on. Those are good answers. But an even better, and more honest, question is this: What do our actions say about our priorities? It’s one thing to list values. It’s another thing to live them out.
That tension is clear in Moses’ response to God.
When God reassures Moses of His presence, He makes a powerful promise: “I will go with you.” Moses understands what’s truly at stake. He doesn’t ask for an easier journey, more success, or greater security. He asks for God’s presence. He knows that without the Lord, even victory would be empty. Moses models true dependence by declaring that God’s presence, not comfort or achievement, is what sets God’s people apart.
The people respond in a transformed way. After repentance, they give generously and obey willingly as they build the tabernacle. Their actions begin to align with their words. God’s presence doesn’t just forgive them, it renews their devotion. What they value is now reflected in how they live.
This challenges us to examine our own lives. Our schedules, decisions, and habits often reveal our true priorities. When God’s presence is our greatest pursuit, everything else finds its proper place.
Respond to God’s Word:
- Why is God’s presence in your life more important than comfort or success?
