Exodus: Chapter by ChapterSample

The God Who Hears and Delivers
The book of Exodus opens in a place many of us know well, waiting, suffering, and wondering if things will ever change. God’s people were once favored in Egypt, but now they are slaves. Their numbers are growing, yet so is their oppression. What stands out most is this simple but powerful truth: they cried out to God, and He heard them.
Exodus reminds us that God is never indifferent to the pain of His people. When Israel groaned under the weight of bondage, their cries reached heaven. God responded not only with action, but with revelation. He revealed Himself to Moses as the great “I AM”, the self-existent, faithful, ever-present God. Before He delivers them from Egypt, He assures them of who He is.
God’s rescue plan begins in an unexpected way: with a reluctant leader in the wilderness. Moses didn’t feel ready, qualified, or confident. Yet God didn’t base His plan on Moses’ ability; He anchored it in His own presence. “I will be with you.” That promise carried Moses forward, and it still carries God’s people today.
Exodus teaches us that deliverance often begins long before circumstances change. It starts when God’s people call on Him and trust that He is faithful to act. Even in seasons of waiting or wandering, God is at work, shaping His people, keeping His promises, and moving them toward freedom.
Respond to God’s Word:
- Where do you need to cry out to God today?
- Trust that the same God who heard Israel’s cries hears yours, and He is present, faithful, and able to deliver.
