Daily Dependence, Not Entitlement

I once received a gift that felt almost unreal: access to a theme park with a special executive pass. It was the kind of pass that stopped employees in their tracks. They would look at it twice, surprised it even existed. Before long, I found myself expecting to be escorted to the front of every line. But here’s the truth: that authority wasn’t mine. I didn’t earn it. It wasn’t a reflection of who I was; it was a gift extended to me through someone else’s influence and authority.

That experience mirrors a subtle spiritual danger we often face. After God delivers us, it’s easy for gratitude to quietly morph into entitlement.

In the wilderness, God faithfully provides manna for Israel, daily bread from heaven. Not weekly. Not monthly. Daily. This provision wasn’t just about food; it was about trust. God was teaching His people to rely on Him one day at a time. Yet despite this miracle, complaints began to rise. The same people who were rescued from slavery started grumbling, revealing how quickly entitlement can replace gratitude when expectations go unchecked.

God also addresses another need Moses didn’t even realize he had. Through shared leadership, God reminds Moses that he was never meant to carry the burden alone. Provision wasn’t only about manna, it was about wisdom, humility, and obedience. God cared not just that His people were fed, but that they learned to walk with Him faithfully, day by day.

The lesson is clear: God is less interested in our stockpiling tomorrow and more interested in our trusting Him today. Daily dependence keeps our hearts grateful and our faith aligned with His leading.
