Week 5 – Day 26 (Thursday)
Psalm 86:11-13, 15 – An Undivided Heart
The mission Jesus came to earth for is drawing closer. Each day, His teaching to His disciples becomes clearer, and His confrontation with the Pharisees intensifies.
Matthew 21:28-31 records Jesus teaching the Parable of the Two Sons with the Pharisees as His audience. The parable describes a father who approaches each son with the same request – “…go and work today in the vineyard” (vs. 28) – and receives two different responses. One son says “no’ but later changes his mind and works for the day; the other says “yes,” but does not follow through with his promise. Jesus asks the Pharisees, ‘Which of the two did what the father wanted?' (vs. 31), And they reply, the first.’ Jesus highlights what truly matters—the path of righteousness begins with an open heart that leads to pure motives and obedient actions.
In today’s psalm, David writes of an “undivided heart.” This defines integrity. What is the opposite of integrity? Duplicity—saying one thing and doing another—or simply not following through.
David writes, “Teach me your way…” a simple, yet perfect prayer for a life of integrity.
