Week 6 – Day 30 (Tuesday)
Psalm 18:25-28 – The Upside-Down Gospel
Jesus’ message of humility and servanthood contrasted sharply with that of the Pharisees and teachers of the law, who relished their status and power. In Matthew 23:1-12, Jesus calls out the religious leaders for not practicing what they preach. The laws they made elevated their status but placed heavy burdens on everyone else. They also had specific expectations for how they should be revered and addressed.
Jesus was the personification of humility. He said, “For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Today’s psalm clearly shows how the Lord responds to the devious, those who manipulate their way to power and position. Yet, the humble will be saved, bringing them light and life even in the darkest times.
May we be more like Jesus, with a renewed desire for greater humility and servanthood.
