DAY 32 OF 40

Week 6 – Day 32 (Thursday)

Psalm 148:13-14 – Faithful Servant

Jesus explains to His listeners that God honors His faithful servants in the Parable of the Talents in Matthew 25:14-30. A man going on a journey entrusts his wealth to three of his servants. When he returns, he finds that two servants have worked hard and doubled the money given to them, but the third does nothing more than bury his portion out of fear. The man responds to the first two with “well done,” but to the third servant, he calls him “wicked” and “lazy.”

Jesus wants to emphasize the fact that discipleship must be taken seriously. The Lord generously pours His grace and mercy into us, but we are not just recipients; we are also meant to be channels through which His goodness flows.

Psalm 148 depicts the Lord raising a horn. Often, a ram’s horn was used to hold oil for anointing a king or someone for special service. This psalm describes God pouring His strength and anointing into His servant so they can carry out faithful service to others.

God anoints all His faithful followers for service in His name. How does His anointing flow in and through you?
