Week 7 – Day 37 (Holy Wednesday)
Psalm 112:5-7 - Legacy
Matthew 26:6-13 is a scene of total abandonment for the love of Jesus. “While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of expensive perfume which she poured on His head as He was reclining at the table.” (vs.7-8) This woman’s love for her Lord led her to boldly enter a home where she was not invited to anoint Jesus, signifying His royal status.
The disciples were so outraged by this outward act, and they completely overlooked the woman's inner motivation of devotion. Jesus explains that this woman’s actions symbolize the anointing for His death and praises her for her boldness; “…wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.” (vs. 13)
Nothing else is known about this woman except for this act of faith. This is her legacy. Maybe this humble act prompts us to think about what our own legacy will be. We all have the power to create our own legacy of faith!
