Week 7 – Day 39 (Good Friday)
Psalm 31:1-5 – “Into Your Hands…”
Christ's journey turned treacherous and acutely painful in these final hours leading to His death.
He endured the shame of false accusations, condemnation, mockery, beatings, and abandonment. After multiple unlawful trials, He was sentenced to death by crucifixion (Matthew 27:11-26).
Before Christ was led away, soldiers spat on Him, tormented and mocked Him, and pierced Him with a crown of thorns. Then Jesus carried His own cross to Calvary and was again mocked and insulted as Roman soldiers nailed Him to the wooden cross. Jesus breathed His last and died (vs. 27-44).
By Friday evening, Jesus' body was taken down from the cross and laid in a tomb (vs. 57-60).
Jesus’ final words were “Into your hands I commit my spirit,” which were written by the psalmist David centuries before. This assures us that God had our redemption in mind all along. We have always been deeply embedded in the heart of God. Even on this dark day in history, we can say that God is our “rock and fortress,” and we can confidently place our lives into His hands.
