Week 7 – Day 38 (Maundy Thursday)
Psalm 103:17-19 - Covenant
By Thursday evening, preparations have been made for Jesus and His disciples to celebrate the Passover by sharing their last meal (Matthew 26:17-30). Everyone feels the seriousness of the moment, and all eyes are on Jesus, who talks about a betrayer. Judas, trying to hide his guilt, responds, “Surely you don’t mean me, Rabbi?” (vs. 25)
Amid this drama, Jesus keeps His eyes on His mission and illustrates His covenant with His people. The bread and wine on the table were passed and consumed as a sign of God’s covenant with His people.
Our God is a covenant-making and keeping God. Long before Jesus and the disciples sat at the table, God stressed His promises to the faithful – His everlasting love and the covenant thread from one generation to another.
God will keep His covenant with His faithful children!
