DAY 25 OF 40

Week 5 – Day 25 (Wednesday)

Psalm 37:5-6 – Following Him

Jesus now heads toward Jerusalem, aware of what is to come. Jesus again speaks to the disciples about fulfilling His Father’s will in detail in Matthew 20:17-19. “…the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!” (vs.18-19)

Jesus spoke of the imminent suffering and death, but concluded with the exclamation point of resurrection. He exemplifies the words found in Psalm 37. Jesus was dedicated to doing His Father’s will, and the reward was completing His mission. It is important to note the word “vindication” in today’s psalm. This implies having to go through darkness to see the dawn.

When we follow in the footsteps of the Lord, there will be suffering, and yet, our vindication will be in eternal life with Him.
