SO BE ITSample

God I'm Just Grateful
by Reggi Beasley
“Who am I that you keep me on Your mind?”
This question tears through my consciousness like a tidal wave. Just the thought that the God of the universe considers and thinks about me is astounding. On its face, this question seems to come from a place of insecurity: “How could I be worthy of time spent in the mind of God?” But as I look a little deeper, I find a truth underneath the wonder—a source of tremendous confidence.
The psalmist invites me into this exact revelation. He asks, “Who am I that You are mindful of me?”
This confession in the form of a question is something more powerful than just being a fleeting thought in God’s imagination. The word “mindful” in the Hebrew language means “to remember.” But not in the way we remember old stories of times gone by. God remembers actively. Faithfully. Intentionally. He leans in toward me and moves me forward. When God remembers me, it isn’t because I slipped His mind and I’ve suddenly come back into His focus. It’s because I was never forgotten to begin with.
This strikes me to the core with the heart of the gospel: the God who holds the world together holds me too. My name. My face. My story. God doesn’t think of me as an abstract idea, but as His child. He is with me in my hoping. He is with me in my hurting. He reminds me continually that He is close. In Jesus, we see the mind of God revealed. He doesn’t remain distant or watch me from afar. He comes to where I am and enters my ordinary.
The question—“Who am I that you keep me on Your mind?”—isn’t meant to intimidate me, but it grounds me. If God remembers me, I can rest. I can stop measuring my worth by the work of my hands or the approval of others. I can learn to trust that even in quiet seasons and unseen moments, I am held in God’s steady attention.
Prayer
Father, I am thankful that you keep me on your mind. You consider my future. You lead me in each step. Help me walk in that confidence today. Guide my eyes to Your face, my ears to Your voice, and my heart to Your grace. Amen.
