SO BE ITSample

Your Name Is God
by Jenna Barrientes
"Your Name is God" is a song that beautifully declares so many attributes of God: Solid Rock, Faithful, Cornerstone, Prince of Peace, King of Kings, Alpha and Omega, Savior, King, My Defense, Great I Am, and the list goes on. We could truly spend a lifetime describing who God is and has been in our lives.
One of the lines in the song says,
Your name is God
No one else beside
El Shaddai, if You don't worry, why should I?
Growing up, I used to love singing a song called “El Shaddai.” As a child, I thought it was cool to sing because I felt like I was speaking a second language. Now, as an adult, I have only begun to understand the weight of the words I was singing, having now experienced “El Shaddai” in my own life.
In Genesis 17:1, God reveals Himself to Abraham as “El Shaddai.” Some would argue the interpretation of the name is “God Almighty,” while others translate it as “All-Sufficient One” — the God who is more than enough. To me, God has proven to be both and more. Lately, I’ve asked the Lord to give me a greater awareness of His power at work in my life. I’ve found it easier for me to see examples of God as loving, kind, and full of mercy, but I’ve found it more challenging to grasp the concept of an Almighty God, One who is full of power and capable of doing anything, yet having the humility to send His only Son into the world to give us eternal life (All-Sufficient).
If I truly believe that God is who He says He is, I should live with far more confidence and a lot less fear and anxiety. I don’t have to worry about tomorrow because the God I serve has already gone before me. Today, as you draw near to Him, I pray you are reminded: We not only serve a trustworthy God who is faithful to His promises, but He also has the power to do what feels impossible in your life.
Prayer
Father, I thank You for Your perfect track record that has given me the confidence to trust You are who You say You are. Today, I acknowledge Your greatness and thank You for Your faithfulness. Thank You that I can call You El Shaddai and trust that You are full of power and strength. Open my eyes to see all the ways You’ve provided and intervened on my behalf. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
