When You Need Hope

DAY 3 OF 7

Day 3: You Will Get Through This

Hopelessness says: “I will never get over what happened.”

GOD SAYS: “Now we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28 TLV).

In the height of any crisis – whether a tragedy, death, betrayal, or devastating loss – it’s going to be overwhelming. It just is. But tragedy doesn’t have to freeze us at the pinnacle of its pain. Allow yourself this time of overwhelm. Give yourself time to grieve, but know that you will get through it.

Crisis mode will subside, and a sense of normalcy will return. It may be a new normal, but you will step into it day by day, reorienting and regaining yourself. You will see goodness again. You will feel the sun again, as you let yourself.

Know that healing is coming, and cling to God through the ups and downs of your journey. Set your mind on Him to help you through, especially the toughest moments, and know that He is with you.

Know also that God has the power and the desire to weave goodness into your life from everything that happens to you. Even this. Hang onto that truth. Expect it. Thank God in advance for it. And cling to Him each day until you see it unfold.

Crisis provides us with an invitation we can accept or refuse. It can drive us closer to God, forcing us to trust Him and allowing Him to comfort and strengthen us. Or we can resent and resist God, blaming Him for our pain. My friend, please don’t choose this option, because there is nothing good in it for you. It leads only to bitterness, loneliness, and despair. But trusting God through our pain yields peace, a greater awareness of His love for us, and hope.

Choose to stand on the Bible’s truths about God: He is good. He is faithful. He loves you beyond measure. He wants only good for you, and He will bring it from whatever tragedy or hardship you’re facing, if you let Him.

Prayer

Lord, draw our friend close and help them know they will get through what right now seems hopeless. Help them cling tightly to You, holding onto hope and walking with You day by day to the other side to renewal, light, and life.

About this Plan

When You Need Hope

Life is hard, and sometimes it hurts – a lot. Sometimes, it overwhelms us and drains the hope right out of us. This seven-day Bible reading plan will help you find your hope again. It takes a look at some of what hopelessness “says” and reveals what God says instead – stuff you can hang onto and count on, things to assure you: there is hope for you.
