DAY 3 OF 5

Day 3 – Our Mess into God’s Miracle

A common and unfortunate misconception among many believers is that we must “have it all together” to be worthy of being in God’s presence and receiving his love. This could not be farther from the truth. There is nothing we can do to earn or lose God’s love; he simply loves us regardless. More than that, he doesn’t reject our mess; he welcomes us with open arms, inviting us to let his love heal, restore, and make us new.

And so, when we inevitably fall short, and we always will, because we are imperfect, we may feel pressured to tidy up our lives before we can approach God. Yet God’s heart is to move toward brokenness, not away from it. While the danger of unchecked desire leads to death (as written in James 1:14-15), remember: we serve a God who has the power to interrupt that cycle with his resurrection power. God isn’t just interested in cleaning up our mess; he wants to wipe the slate clean and take us from glory to glory, closer and closer to who he created us to be

Jesus shows us throughout the Gospels that he is not afraid of the mess or brokenness people carry. He is God made flesh, and displays the heart God has had from the beginning of time. He didn’t reject people for what they were going through, but he entered into it all, took on our imperfections, and defeated sin and death.

God shows great love and consistently invites “unworthy” people (all of us!) out of our mess into the miracle of a new identity: a conqueror and his coheir. It’s not because of our good works at all, but because of God’s faithfulness.

Our mess isn’t a reason to move away from him; it’s actually the very place he wants to encounter us and create new beginnings. This is uncomfortable, but God meets us in the discomfort to redeem our messy story into one that reveals his glory.

Questions to Reflect On

  1. To what extent have shame and fear kept you running away from God?
  2. What mess in your life does God need to come in and redeem?

Live it Out

Don’t just reflect. Act on it!

Example:

  • Habit → uninstall it: Spending hours scrolling social media late at night. Delete the apps from your phone for the week and limit access moving forward.
  • Relationship → set a boundary: A friend who constantly drags you into gossip. Decide to limit conversations to neutral topics, meet less frequently, or have an honest conversation about changing.
  • Compromise → confess it: Being impatient or harsh with family when stressed. Confess it to God and ask for his help to respond differently. Ask a trusted friend to pray with you.
