Like a Tree – Devotional

DAY 12 OF 30

YOUR HELP

When the Counselor Leads, Everything Changes

“The Advocate, the Holy Spirit… will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” - John 14:26 (NIV)
“Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually!” - Psalm 105:4 (ESV)

Big Idea: The Holy Spirit’s guidance is intimate and participatory. He leads, but you must respond with surrender and steady seeking.

Many adults quietly carry the belief that deep change is unlikely: “This is just how I am.” “I’ve always been anxious.” “My patterns are too old.” But Scripture tells a different story: the Spirit is Counselor, Helper, and Guide—and His most significant work often happens in private, over time, through daily communion.

This relationship isn’t passive. The Spirit is not an impersonal force. He speaks, comforts, convicts, and guides. We respond by asking, listening, and obeying. We learn to stop quenching what He’s doing and start yielding. As intimacy deepens, His counsel becomes the steady rhythm of our lives.

It’s then that renewal becomes real. And not once in a while, but “day by day.” Grace can write the next chapter with a beautiful transformation.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Where do you most need the Spirit’s counsel right now—decision-making, emotional health, temptation, relationships, purpose?
  2. What does yielding look like for you today (repentance, forgiveness, slowing down, obedience, letting go of control)?
  3. What daily rhythm will help you seek His presence continually (Scripture, worship, prayer, silence, journaling)?

Prayer Focus: Holy Spirit, be my Counselor. Teach me, remind me, guide me—and give me a willing heart to respond.

About this Plan

Like a Tree – Devotional

Psalm 1 describes the person who is like a tree planted by streams of water, whose leaves do not wither and who yields fruit in season. They are privately healthy, deeply planted and rooted in the Lord, and publicly fruitful. But how do we live like a tree? This 10-week devotional dives into the key principles of being rooted in God, delighting in His Word, and bearing lasting fruit for His Kingdom.
