Like a Tree – Devotional

DAY 28 OF 30

YOUR POSITION

Not Flashy, Faithful

“The righteous flourish like the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.” - Psalm 92:12 (NIV)
“If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.” - Isaiah 7:9 (NIV)

Big Idea: Fruit may impress, yet resilience defines. God is building the strength to stay.

There’s a kind of strength you only notice over time: a life that stays planted like a tree and keeps standing. It might not be the tallest or the most recognized tree. But it is rooted, steady, and unmoved, even in the midst of chaos. That kind of endurance carries a quiet authority.

Many adults feel the pressure to keep moving. We reinvent ourselves, escape from uncomfortable life situations, try to start over, or run away. But in the kingdom of God, the courage to stay is a form of fruitfulness. It’s not only about what we accomplish for God, it’s also about how we stay rooted and connected through changing seasons.

Bark isn’t glamorous. It doesn’t draw applause, but it protects the life inside. It’s spiritual toughness that forgives deeply, resists temptation, endures loss, stays loyal, and refuses to quit. Anyone can blossom in spring, but bark gets you through winter.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Where are you most tempted to quit, drift, or detach emotionally to avoid pain?
  2. What would “faithfulness” look like in one specific place: marriage, work, church, parenting, recovery, integrity?
  3. What practice would help you grow spiritual bark this season (Scripture, prayer, community, counsel, rest)?

Prayer Focus: Lord, make me firm. Grow endurance in me that stays faithful through storms, setbacks, and long seasons.

About this Plan

Like a Tree – Devotional

Psalm 1 describes the person who is like a tree planted by streams of water, whose leaves do not wither and who yields fruit in season. They are privately healthy, deeply planted and rooted in the Lord, and publicly fruitful. But how do we live like a tree? This 10-week devotional dives into the key principles of being rooted in God, delighting in His Word, and bearing lasting fruit for His Kingdom.
