Like a Tree – DevotionalSample

YOUR POSITION
Bark is Armor
“Put on the full armor of God… and after you have done everything, to stand.” - Ephesians 6:11,13 (NIV)
Big Idea: Standing requires spiritual covering. God’s armor is how you remain upright when the battle intensifies.
Some storms are external. Other storms are parts of spiritual schemes: accusation, fear, temptation, confusion, cynicism, division, and discouragement. Scripture does not tell us to pretend it’s not a fight or to run away and hide. Instead, it tells us how to stand.
The armor of God is not religious imagery—it’s real protection for real life:
- Truth fastens your identity when lies tug at your mind.
- Righteousness guards your heart—Christ’s righteousness and a righteous way of living.
- Peace gives traction so you can stand, pivot, and move without slipping into panic.
- Faith extinguishes flaming arrows—fear, accusation, bitterness, shame.
- Salvation covers your mind with rescue, adoption, and hope.
- The Word becomes a sword—clear, sharp, and effective against darkness.
- Prayer is how the armor is worn on all occasions.
God is not asking you to be a glass-jaw believer—impressive until the first punch lands. He is forming a faith that can take hits and remain standing.
Reflection Questions:
- What “scheme” has been targeting you lately—fear, lust, anger, offense, hopelessness, isolation, or compromise?
- Which piece of armor do you need to tighten today?
- What would it look like to practice “standing prayer” this week—short, steady, on all occasions, communion?
Prayer Focus: Lord, help me take my stand. Give me bark—spiritual resilience—, so I remain planted, faithful, and fruitful through every season.

About this Plan

Psalm 1 describes the person who is like a tree planted by streams of water, whose leaves do not wither and who yields fruit in season. They are privately healthy, deeply planted and rooted in the Lord, and publicly fruitful. But how do we live like a tree? This 10-week devotional dives into the key principles of being rooted in God, delighting in His Word, and bearing lasting fruit for His Kingdom.
