Like a Tree – Devotional

DAY 7 OF 30

YOUR FUEL

Prosperity Isn’t Accumulation—It’s Alignment

“Jesus said, ‘My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.’” - John 4:34 (NIV)
“The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.” - 1 John 2:17 (NIV)

Big Idea: Your soul is fueled by purpose; doing God’s will nourishes you in a way success can’t.

Many adults eventually discover an unsettling truth: you can achieve what you once dreamed of and still feel hollow. You can get the promotion, make the purchase, receive the applause, or attain the stability. None of it is wrong, but none of it is strong enough to feed an eternal soul.

Jesus names a different source of nourishment: the will of God. He calls it food. That’s striking. Purpose isn’t an “extra” for spiritually serious people; it’s quite literally the fuel. Without it, we drift into striving and end up exhausted. With it, even hard seasons gain meaning because you’re aligned with the One who made you and called you.

Real prosperity is not about more—it’s about right. Right direction. Right priorities. Right obedience. The deeper satisfaction comes when your life is connected to God’s mission, not just your own momentum.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What has been feeding your soul lately—and what has been draining it?
  2. When has “success” felt peculiarly empty for you, and what did that reveal?
  3. What is one area where God is inviting you into clearer alignment this week?

Prayer Focus: Lord, re-center my hunger. Nourish me with Your will so I live from purpose, not pressure.

About this Plan

Like a Tree – Devotional

Psalm 1 describes the person who is like a tree planted by streams of water, whose leaves do not wither and who yields fruit in season. They are privately healthy, deeply planted and rooted in the Lord, and publicly fruitful. But how do we live like a tree? This 10-week devotional dives into the key principles of being rooted in God, delighting in His Word, and bearing lasting fruit for His Kingdom.
