Like a Tree – DevotionalSample

Planted People Flourish and Bear Fruit
“Planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish…” - Psalm 92:13 (NIV)
“For we are God’s handiwork… created… to do good works…” - Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)
Big Idea: Flourishing requires planting—commit to God’s house and God’s people, and He will grow lasting fruit through you.
Modern life trains us to stay uncommitted: keep options open, stay mobile, avoid deep attachment, consume what helps you, and move on. But spiritual growth doesn’t work like that. Fruit requires roots. And roots require planting.
To be planted in God’s house isn’t about perfectionism—it’s about belonging. It’s choosing worship, community, accountability, service, and shared mission as your ongoing soil. There is a kind of strengthening that only happens when you stop drifting and stay planted.
Here’s the hope underneath it all: you were made for a life that can live and grow like a tree. You are not an accident or a leftover. You are not disqualified by your past. God has good works prepared for you, fruit with your name on it. Plant yourself, take the next step, and let God turn private nourishment into public fruitfulness.
Reflection Questions:
- Where are you truly planted right now—and where are you still treating faith like a temporary stop?
- If purpose chose your calendar, what one YES and one NO would you make this week?
- What is one next step you will take toward being planted and fruitful (serve, join a group, seek mentoring, commit consistently, reconcile, step into your calling)?
Prayer Focus: Lord, plant me where You want me. Grow fruit through my life that lasts—and make me faithful in the long obedience of becoming who You designed me to be.

About this Plan

Psalm 1 describes the person who is like a tree planted by streams of water, whose leaves do not wither and who yields fruit in season. They are privately healthy, deeply planted and rooted in the Lord, and publicly fruitful. But how do we live like a tree? This 10-week devotional dives into the key principles of being rooted in God, delighting in His Word, and bearing lasting fruit for His Kingdom.
