What If Walking Away is The Most Godly Thing You Can Do?
Not every relationship can, or should, be saved.
Jesus loved perfectly, yet He walked away from people more than 40 times in the Gospels. He knew what many of us struggle to accept: some relationships are toxic, and staying connected will only drain your soul and destroy your peace. Love doesn’t mean enabling. Grace doesn’t mean giving endless access. And wisdom often looks like distance.
We often confuse being a Christian with being endlessly available. But Scripture warns us clearly: evil people exist, and they leave destruction in their wake. When someone continually lies, manipulates, attacks, divides, or refuses to change, the godliest thing you can do may be to walk away. Not in hate, but in health.
Jesus didn’t chase the rich young ruler. He didn’t beg the Pharisees to understand Him. He slipped away from hostile crowds. And He allowed even His closest followers to walk if they wanted to. You can be loving and still say, “This relationship is not safe or sustainable.”
Don’t let fear, guilt, or people-pleasing trap you in toxic cycles. Boundaries aren’t unloving; they’re godly. When you walk away from what’s harming you, you walk toward what God has for you: peace, clarity, healing, and stronger relationships that actually help you grow.
When you ignore the red flags in someone’s character, you don’t just risk frustration, you risk damage. Patterns of disrespect, dishonesty, or manipulation aren’t small flaws to overlook. They’re signs of deeper issues that require wisdom, not wishful thinking. God gives you discernment for a reason. Don’t silence it just to keep the peace.
Is there a relationship God is gently telling you to release, for your sake, your family's, and your future?
