Courage Under PressureSample

Courage Puts God First
Living in Babylon was not Daniel’s choice; it was the result of exile. His culture was replaced, his language changed, his name altered, and his education redirected.
God’s people were far from home. Jerusalem was behind them, and now they lived in Babylon under the rule of Nebuchadnezzar II. Everything was different: language, customs, beliefs.
Daniel and his friends could not control where they lived, but they could decide how they would live.
Their names were changed. They were taught a new culture. Their identity was being reshaped. But when the moment came to disobey God, Daniel chose to stand firm.
He did not shout.
He did not rebel.
He did not isolate himself.
He simply decided that his relationship with God was not negotiable. He had the courage to put God first.
Today we also live in a culture that often normalises what God does not approve. Sometimes the pressure does not come with visible threats but through small compromises: a “harmless” lie, a convenient omission, a comfortable silence.
Putting God first is not always dramatic. Often it is a quiet decision made in the heart.
Daniel asked for wisdom and acted with grace. And God honoured his faithfulness.
Reflect
- Is there something around you that is trying to redefine your identity?
- What does it look like in your real life to put God first today?
Prayer
Lord, strengthen my heart and give me courage. When my surroundings change, may my loyalty to You remain firm.

About this Plan

We live in a culture that constantly pressures our faith, redefines values, and challenges our convictions. In this 5-day plan by Suki Kangas, we will learn from the Bible how God’s people showed courage while living in exile. Through their stories, we will discover how to remain firm when the world pressures and opposes us. You will learn how to put God first, trust Him in the fire, live in truth, serve with courage, and persevere each day.
