In Jesus' Name

DAY 1 OF 7

Power in Jesus' Name

The book of Acts tells the incredible story of God’s promises being realised and released in the early church. But it’s not just their story. It’s ours too.

What began in those first believers is now meant to continue with us. It’s exciting, but it’s also somewhat daunting. The responsibility we have been given is completely impossible in our own strength! But it was never meant to run on human power.

Think about what it would be like to live underwater while holding your breath. You could manage it for a little while, but you’d have to keep coming back up for air. You could dive down again and again, but each time you’d get more exhausted. It’s unsustainable and restrained by your physical limitations. Eventually, you’d get dizzy, develop headaches, and probably pass out!

But imagine if you had gills. Suddenly, everything changes. You’re no longer living off a limited supply within you, but drawing from a constant, ongoing source. What once drained you now sustains you.

In a similar way, we can rely on limited sources of power: our hard work, our personality, our good ideas. We can manage like this for a while, but eventually they run dry. Often, they bring their own “headaches”: burnout, division, and pride. But from the very beginning, God designed His people to live differently—not running on our own strength, but sustained by the never-ending, life-giving power of the Holy Spirit.

When the Spirit came in Acts 2, everything changed. Ordinary people were filled with extraordinary power. A small group in an upper room began to grow into a global movement. And the purpose of that power was clear. Jesus had already told them: “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses…” (Acts 1:8)

The Spirit’s power wasn’t given simply for a spiritual experience. It was given so that the message of Jesus could reach the world. It’s power with a purpose. And it wasn’t just for them, it was for us too!

Power in Jesus’ name begins with surrender. We simply turn to Him, trust Him, and open our lives to His Spirit. And as we do, His Spirit fills us and empowers us.

Let’s Pray
Jesus, thank You for saving me and calling me into Your mission. I don’t want to rely on my own strength. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit afresh today, and empower me to live with purpose in Your name. Amen.

About this Plan

In Jesus' Name

The book of Acts isn't just church history, it's an invitation. It tells the incredible story of what happened when Jesus’ followers lived in His name and by His Spirit after He returned to the Father. But it’s not just their story, it’s ours too. We get to continue what they started! When we surrender our lives to Jesus like those early disciples did, things begin to change. Join us as we explore power, miracles, boldness, salvation, freedom, perseverance, and the future in Jesus’ name through the book of Acts.
