Salvation in Jesus’ Name
If I were swimming at the beach, enjoying the rolling waves from within the flags, I'd be pretty puzzled if a lifeguard swam up and told me that they had come to save me.
If you asked someone on the street, “Would you like salvation?” they might respond, “From what?” To put it simply, if you don’t think you need saving, why would you accept rescue?
The word salvation can feel a bit like “Christianese” in our modern culture. But we see its real beauty in the encounter between Peter and a Roman officer named Cornelius in Acts 10.
Cornelius was a good man. Scripture says he was devout, generous, and prayerful. But he didn’t know Jesus. Still, God saw his searching heart. Speaking to both him and Peter through visions during prayer, God orchestrated a meeting neither man could have planned.
This reminds us of a truth about salvation: God prepares the way. Long before people meet Jesus, God is already at work drawing hearts and arranging conversations. Cornelius and Peter both responded to this with no hesitation, just faithful obedience. And as they did, a divine appointment unfolded!
When Peter arrived, something remarkable happened. Jews and Gentiles rarely associated with one another, but God showed Peter that no one should be excluded from His grace. All are welcome in Jesus’ name. Peter shared the good news about Jesus—His life, His death on the cross, and His resurrection. Then he declared the heart of the gospel: “Everyone who believes in Him will receive forgiveness of sins through His name.” (Acts 10:43)
Salvation in Jesus’ name means even more than being rescued from sin, as crucial as that is. It also carries the idea of being made whole, healed, restored, and brought into peace with God.
We all need the salvation that Jesus offers, and Cornelius realised it that day. Then, as Peter spoke, the Holy Spirit fell on everyone who was listening. God Himself confirmed the message by filling them with His presence. Salvation had come!
God is still preparing the way, still inviting people, and still welcoming anyone who believes in Jesus. No one is too far gone or too broken. Why? Because salvation is not found in our name—it’s found in Jesus’ name alone.
Let's Pray
Jesus, thank You for forgiving me and making me whole. Help me to trust You fully, and to share this good news with others today. Amen.

About this Plan

The book of Acts isn't just church history, it's an invitation. It tells the incredible story of what happened when Jesus’ followers lived in His name and by His Spirit after He returned to the Father. But it’s not just their story, it’s ours too. We get to continue what they started! When we surrender our lives to Jesus like those early disciples did, things begin to change. Join us as we explore power, miracles, boldness, salvation, freedom, perseverance, and the future in Jesus’ name through the book of Acts.
