LEAD RIGHT.

DAY 10 OF 14

Elijah— Leadership that is Bold and rooted in Faith

Elijah is one of the most dramatic figures in the Bible, a prophet whose leadership was defined by absolute conviction in the one true God and an unyielding boldness in the face of spiritual compromise. He emerges in Israel's history during a time when King Ahab and Queen Jezebel were actively promoting the worship of the pagan god Baal, leading the nation into spiritual idolatry.

Elijah's leadership was not about consensus or diplomacy; it was a confrontational calling that demanded a stark choice. His most famous moment, the showdown on Mount Carmel (1 Kings 18), perfectly illustrates his style: a high-stakes, public test of faith that exposed the false gods and restored God's authority.

Courage Over Comfort: Elijah faced down 450 prophets of Baal and an angry royal court. True spiritual leadership often requires standing alone, speaking truth to power, and refusing to compromise core beliefs, even when it is dangerous or unpopular.

Dependence, Not Dominance: Despite his powerful actions, Elijah's strength came directly from God. He was utterly dependent on God to send the drought, provide food, and send fire from heaven. A bold leader is not self-sufficient but one who fully trusts and obeys God, who is backing them.

Vulnerability and Renewal: After his great triumph, Elijah fled out of fear of Jezebel (1 Kings 19). This shows that even the boldest leaders experience burnout, fear, and deep discouragement. God met him not with fire and wind, but in a gentle whisper, providing rest and renewal before sending him back to his mission. This teaches us that spiritual leaders must prioritise their connection with God for strength and direction, and acknowledge their own human limits.

Where is God calling you to lead with courage today? In what areas have you relied on your own strength instead of seeking God's power?

About this Plan

LEAD RIGHT.

Leadership is a very interesting calling. It allows you to see what God wants for his people and, in the same breath, pushes you to learn a lot about yourself. I have found that God will work on the leader as he or she submits to Him.
