Samuel – The Leader who heard God.
Samuel, whose very name means "Heard of God," is a profoundly unique leader in the Bible. He transitioned Israel from the period of the Judges to the establishment of the monarchy, serving as a powerful prophet, a just judge, and a king-maker. His leadership teaches us a vital lesson: True leadership begins with a deep commitment to hearing and obeying God's voice.
Samuel's story starts with a simple yet profound moment: as a boy dedicated to temple service, he mistook the voice of God for the voice of his mentor, Eli (1 Samuel 3). When Eli finally helped him understand, Samuel's response was: "Speak, for your servant is listening" (1 Samuel 3:10). This singular act of attentive listening became the foundation of his lifelong service.
As leaders, we are constantly bombarded by voices—the demands of our work, the expectations of our followers, the noise of our own fears and desires. If we are not careful, we can mistake the loud voices of the world for the quiet, guiding voice of the Spirit. Samuel reminds us that our primary duty is to keep our spiritual ears attuned to God.
Our ability to lead others effectively is directly proportional to our willingness to listen to the One who commissioned us.

About this Plan

Leadership is a very interesting calling. It allows you to see what God wants for his people and, in the same breath, pushes you to learn a lot about yourself. I have found that God will work on the leader as he or she submits to Him.
