When God Breaks ThroughSample

Day 3 — God Breaks Through in Mercy
King Hezekiah was a man who trusted God and held fast to Him. In 2 Kings 18, we are told that he removed the high places, smashed the sacred stones, cut down the Asherah poles, and even broke the bronze serpent Moses had made because the people were still burning incense to it. Scripture says that he did what was right in the sight of the Lord and that there was no one like him among all the kings of Judah, either before him or after him. The Lord was with him, and it was evident.
But in 2 Kings 20, we see Hezekiah in an impossible moment. He becomes ill, and God sends the prophet Isaiah to tell him to put his house in order because he will not recover. He was told he would not live. You do not have much time left.
Imagine the fear. Imagine that news reaching your door.
Hezekiah does not look to man and plead his case there. Instead, he turns his face to the wall and prays to the Lord, weeping bitterly and begging for mercy. God hears his prayer and answers him immediately. He promises to heal him, to add fifteen years to his life, and to deliver him and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. The sign of this promise was the shadow moving backward ten steps.
God grants him healing. In His mercy, He restores him and extends his life.
Other passages give us more detail: after his healing, Hezekiah became proud and had to humble himself in repentance. Yet even here, we are reminded of something powerful: mercy is not something we earn. It is something God gives. Hezekiah’s life was extended not because he was perfect, but because God was merciful.
His mercy is shown in this: He hears our prayers, sees our tears, and intervenes where no man can.
Reflection:
Are you feeling like your situation is final? That the hard news you received has an outcome that feels sealed, and nothing else can be done? Hezekiah’s story reminds us that even there, God is able to break through in mercy. He still hears. He still sees. He still responds.

About this Plan

If you think God breaking through is about favoritism, perfection, background, or status, think again. His intervention is not reserved for the most qualified or gifted. He shows up because He can, because He wills, and because it is in His character. It is who He is. This 7-day Plan walks you through the stories of real people facing real situations and shows you the same God showing up in every one of them. Again and again, Scripture reminds us: He is still the God who breaks through.
