DAY 1 OF 5

Make Room for God’s Presence

“Please, let us make a small upper room on the wall… so it will be, whenever he comes to us, he can turn in there.” — 2 Kings 4:10

She is never named in Scripture — simply called “a notable woman” from Shunem. Wealthy, perceptive, and generous, the Shunammite woman noticed the prophet Elisha passing through her town and began inviting him to share a meal whenever he was in the area. Over time, she spoke to her husband about building a small room for him on their rooftop — a permanent place of rest for a man of God on the move.

The Shunammite woman didn’t wait to be asked. She saw a need, consulted her husband, and created intentional space for God’s servant. Her hospitality wasn’t reactive — it was designed. The room had a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp. Everything a traveller could need. This is a picture of the life that makes deliberate, prepared room for God’s presence.

Notice what followed: God’s presence through the prophet brought unexpected blessing — a son she had long stopped hoping for. Authentic hospitality doesn’t just bless others; it opens doors you didn’t even know existed. Dreams you gave up. Wombs that had waited. Situations that seemed unchangeable. When we make room for God, He brings what we did not even know we needed

REFLECT & RESPOND

◆What does it practically look like to “make room” for God in your daily life right now?

◆Is there a dream you have quietly given up on that you need to surrender back to God?

PRAY

LORD, show me where I have closed doors to Your presence. I open my heart, my home, and my schedule to You today. Come in.

About this Plan

IT IS WELL

She had no name in Scripture. Yet the God who saw her was never done with her. Over five days, walk through the story of the Shunammite woman and discover a God who brings unexpected blessing, who hears the prayer that never left your lips, and who gives back — with interest — everything the enemy stole.
