IT IS WELL

DAY 4 OF 5

Obedience Preserves You

“The woman proceeded to do as the man of God said. She and her family went away and stayed in the land of the Philistines seven years.”— 2 Kings 8:2

Elisha warned her: famine is coming. Leave now. The instruction was inconvenient and countercultural — pack up your life and go live among your historical enemies. But she obeyed. And while Israel suffered, she and her family survived in enemy territory. Obedience became her protection.

God confides in those who fear Him (Psalm 25:14). Those who walk close to Him receive advance notice, strategies, and wisdom that others don’t. Her seven years among the Philistines looked strange from the outside. Walking in faith will often look counterintuitive to those around you. But obedience is the path to preservation. Your steps are ordered. You don’t have to live a confused life.

REFLECT & RESPOND

◆ What is the last clear instruction God gave you? Have you obeyed it fully?

◆ Is there a “counterintuitive” step of obedience — giving, forgiving, stepping back, speaking up — that you have been avoiding?

PRAY

LORD, make me someone who hears and obeys. Tune my heart to Your voice so that Your instructions — even the uncomfortable ones — become my protection.

About this Plan

IT IS WELL

She had no name in Scripture. Yet the God who saw her was never done with her. Over five days, walk through the story of the Shunammite woman and discover a God who brings unexpected blessing, who hears the prayer that never left your lips, and who gives back — with interest — everything the enemy stole.
