Galatians: Chapter by Chapter

DAY 1 OF 6

There Is No Other Gospel

Paul opens Galatians with urgency. Unlike many of his other letters, he quickly addresses a serious issue: the Galatians were turning away from the true gospel. False teachers had convinced them that faith in Jesus was not enough and that they also needed to follow the Mosaic law to be fully accepted by God.

Paul strongly reminds them that the gospel is not man-made. It was revealed through Jesus Christ Himself. His authority as an apostle did not come from human approval, religious status, or earthly recognition. God had called and commissioned him.

I’ve had moments where people told me about something that happened and I took it as the full truth. I started making assumptions about others based on someone else’s comments, gossip, or take on a situation. Later, I found out that in some instances they were embellishing, exaggerating, or even lying. I didn’t have the truth, and I paid the price for it.

That’s exactly what was happening in Galatia. The believers were listening to distorted teaching instead of holding onto the truth of the gospel. Paul warns them that when we drift away from truth, confusion and bondage follow.

Many people still struggle with trying to “earn” God’s approval. We may think God loves us more when we perform well spiritually and less when we fail. But the gospel teaches us that our standing before God is rooted in Christ, not in our perfection.

Paul’s words call believers back to the simplicity and power of grace. Jesus is sufficient. His cross is enough.

The gospel is centered on what Christ has done, not what we can achieve.

Respond to God’s Word

  • Ask God to help you discern truth from lies.
  • Reflect on whether outside voices have shaped your view of God more than Scripture has.
  • Spend time reading God’s Word personally instead of depending only on other people’s opinions about it.
