Galatians: Chapter by Chapter

DAY 2 OF 6

Justified by Faith

In this chapter, Paul recounts confronting Peter after Peter withdrew from eating with Gentile believers out of fear of criticism from others. Paul understood that this behavior contradicted the gospel because it implied that Gentiles were somehow spiritually inferior unless they followed Jewish customs.

Paul boldly declares one of the central truths of Christianity: people are justified by faith in Jesus Christ, not by works of the law.

I remember being invited to a special breakfast with the president of the United States. I asked for time off from work and got it. Some of my coworkers were impressed by what I was able to attend. But what they forgot was that I wasn’t able to go because of who I was, but because of another person who invited me.

In the same way, we are justified through Christ. Not because of our own worthiness, but because of Jesus’ perfection.

Justification means being declared righteous before God. This does not happen because of perfect obedience, moral achievement, or religious activity. It happens through faith in Christ alone.

Paul writes, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.” The Christian life is not merely behavior modification; it is transformation through union with Christ.

Many people carry the burden of trying to prove themselves worthy before God. Yet the cross reminds us that Jesus already accomplished what we never could. We are not saved by striving harder but by trusting deeper.

We are made right with God through faith in Christ, not through religious performance.

Respond to God’s Word

  • Thank Jesus for what He has done on your behalf.
  • Identify areas where you are still trying to “earn” God’s acceptance.
  • Walk today with confidence knowing your identity is rooted in Christ, not performance.
