DAY 16 OF 21

Safe Enough to Heal

DEVOTIONAL

You will only ever heal as deeply as you feel safe.

Back on day four we talked about the freed captive who still flinches at the open door, the heart so shaped by the old master that it cannot quite trust the new one. Here is the answer to that ache, and it is not pressure or effort. It is safety. People do not change because they are frightened into it. They heal because they finally feel secure enough to.

This is the genius of how God restores a person. He does not stand over you demanding improvement. He surrounds you with a love so settled that your guard can finally come down. Paul says nothing in all creation, not failure, not the future, not your worst day, can separate you from the love of God in Christ Jesus. That is the safety that heals. Not love you have to keep, but love you cannot lose.

John says perfect love drives out fear. So much of what keeps us bound is fear: fear of rejection, fear of getting it wrong again, fear that the freedom is conditional and could be snatched back. Love is what dismantles that. And the love over you is not anxious or disappointed. Zephaniah pictures God rejoicing over you with singing. Sit with that image of the Father, glad over you, delighting, not tapping His foot waiting for you to perform.

The more you trust that safety, the more you start to live like the free son or daughter you already are. Security is not the reward for healing. It is the soil healing grows in.

And once you truly believe you are safe, you can do the thing the prodigal finally did. Tomorrow, we come all the way home to the table.

REFLECTION

What fear has been keeping your guard up with God? What would change if you truly believed His love over you could not be lost?

FREEDOM STEP

Name one fear you have been carrying in your relationship with God, and answer it today with the truth: "Nothing can separate me from His love."

PRAYER

Father, thank You that Your love over me is not anxious or fragile, but settled and sure. Quiet my fear with Your perfect love. Let me feel safe enough with You to finally heal. Amen.
