DAY 11 OF 20

WEEK 3: JOY IS YOUR STRENGTH

Joy isn't a luxury for easy seasons. It's the fuel that gets you through hard ones.

Day 11: The People Were Weeping

Scripture: Nehemiah 8:9 (NIV)
"Then Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and teacher of the Law, and the Levites who were instructing the people said to them all, 'This day is holy to the Lord your God. Do not mourn or weep.' For all the people had been weeping as they listened to the words of the Law."

The people weren't weeping because something bad happened. They were weeping because they heard God's Word and realized how far they'd drifted. It was conviction. Grief over real failure. And that's actually a healthy response.

But Nehemiah interrupted it. Not because the grief was wrong, but because getting stuck in it wasn't going to help them move forward. There's a time to grieve and a time to receive grace and keep going. And Nehemiah was telling them: today is the second kind of day.

A lot of students live in a permanent state of spiritual guilt. They know they've messed up. They feel the weight of it. And instead of bringing it to God and receiving forgiveness, they just carry it. They think staying in the guilt is somehow more honest or more humble than accepting grace.

But guilt that doesn't lead to change is just weight. And weight drains you. It doesn't make you better. It just makes you tired.

God's grace isn't a reward for people who've suffered enough. It's a gift for people who are honest enough to receive it. You don't have to earn your way out of the guilt. You just have to let it go.

Reflect: Is there something you've been carrying in guilt that you haven't fully brought to God and released? What's keeping you holding onto it?

Today: Bring it to God. Name it specifically. Receive the forgiveness He's already offering. Then let today be a holy day, not a guilt day.
